EastEnders star Perry Fenwick has split from his actress wife Angela Lonsdale after five years of marriage.
Perry, who plays Billy Mitchell in the BBC1 soap, and former Coronation Street actress Angela are said to be “devastated”.
A friend told The Mirror: “They just ran out of love. They had a series of heart-to-hearts and decided to call it a day. No one else is involved.”
On Wednesday night, a spokesman for the couple confirmed: “Perry Fenwick and Angela Lonsdale have sadly separated after five years of marriage. They will not be making any further comment.”
The news of the breakdown on their marriage – considered to be one of the strongest in showbiz – has come as a huge shock to the Albert Square cast.
A show source said: “We only found out about this yesterday and can’t believe it.
“No one knew there were any problems at all as Perry is always talking about Angela in glowing terms. No one saw this coming. They are determined to stay friends.”
Perry and Angela, best known for playing police officer Emma Taylor on Coronation Street, lived together in North London. Perry proposed by writing in pebbles on a beach.
