After Monday’s announcement that Patsy Palmer is returning to EastEnders, producers revealed her former husband on the show, Sid Owen, is also to reappear.
Sid played Ricky for 12 years between 1988 and 2000 and for two years from 2002.
The Daily Mirror reported that Sid signed a deal on Monday. He said: “I’m over the moon they have asked me to come back. I’m looking forward to working with Patsy again, although not to her nagging me by shouting Ricky’s name.”
The style of their returns will be completely different. A bedraggled Bianca will return with a gaggle of kids and no money; Ricky, however, will return with money and a Footballers’ Wives-style fiancee.
The drama is likely to centre on a will they/won’t they get back together scenario.
This latest signing proves just how quickly things move in showbusiness.
In an exclusive interview with Sid last week, the actor told whatsontv.co.uk: “I’d never say never to going back to EastEnders. If they had a good storyline then I’d definitely go back.”
Before his return to EastEnders, Sid will be appearing in The Bill on Thursday November 1.
