EastEnders is to reference Team GB’s success in the Olympics, with a special scene to be shown tonight (Tuesday, August 7).

It’s rumoured that Jean Slater (Gillian Wright), Tyler Moon (Tony Discipline) and Ray Dixon (Chucky Venn) will praise Team GB and their achievements, as well as discussing how proud they feel to be living in London in the scene, which is a last-minute addition.

The scene comes a fortnight after the BBC soap marked the Olympics with live scenes showing Billy Mitchell (Perry Fenwick) carrying the Olympic torch.

EastEnders’ executive producer Lorraine Newman told Digital Spy: “Following EastEnders’ involvement with the Olympic torch relay, we are delighted to have the opportunity to reflect the current sentiment of the entire country. Team GB have made so many people truly proud to be British and we wish them continued success.”

The soap has previously added in special scenes at short notice to include references to Michael Jackson’s death, Barack Obama’s Presidency, the 2010 general election and the Royal wedding in 2011.

The Team GB scene will be shown in tonight’s episode of EastEnders on BBC Two.
