Shaun Williamson is having fun in his new job

Former EastEnders star Shaun Williamson has popped up as a newsreader!

The hugely popular actor, who’s most famous for being Barry in EastEnders, features in a new stage show by children’s favourite Mister Maker which last week opened at Butlins in Minehead, Somerset.

Shaun, who dons a snazzy suit for the role, is seen in the hour-long show in video clips reporting on the search for Mr Rectangle, who’s gone missing.

Now, either you have young kids and instantly know who Mr Rectangle is or you don’t and you’re completely baffled, but Mr Rectangle is one of the legendary shapes who feature in hit art show Mister Maker on CBeebies.

Mister Maker, aka Phil Gallagher, informed the crowd it was Barry from EastEnders as Shaun kept up with the updates on the search for Mr Rectangle.

Since Barry was shoved to his death by evil Janine back in 2004, Shaun has gone to do a huge amount of shows including Extras, The Bill, Life’s Too Short and Casualty.

But until we saw it for ourselves – What’s On TV was in the audience! – we didn’t imagine him as a newsreader!

Shaun can be seen in Mister Maker Returns over the summer.
