Former EastEnders actress Jacqueline Leonard has revealed that she auditioned for the role being played by Michelle Collins in Coronation Street.

Jacqueline, who played Lorraine Wicks in the show, told Inside Soap magazine, “I auditioned recently for the role of Stella Price.

“I actually got down to the last few for the role but as we now know, it went to Michelle Collins.”

The actres admitted she was disappointed to have missed out on the chance to join the soap – since she is based in Manchester with her husband Alex and eight-year-old daughter Alesha.

“The Street set is right on my doorstep, but that’s life isn’t it?” she said. “It’s quite ironic really, what with Michelle being a Southerner having to come up north to film her scenes!”

Jacqueline has recently taken a career break following a freak pelvis injury caused by ice-skating, but revealed she will be back on screens soon.

I’m going back to film that for a few weeks, but after it’s done, I’m not really sure what’s coming up next. That means I’m a free agent and open to offers!” she said.
