Former pop star Hannah Spearritt, who shot to fame in S Club 7, is to join the cast of EastEnders as Kandice Taylor, the younger sister of Karen Taylor.
The singer-turned-actress is the latest pop star to arrive on Albert Square following the casting of Blue’s Lee Ryan as Harry “Woody” Woodward earlier this year.
Hannah will appear for a short stint in the role of Kandice Taylor, the younger sister of Karen Taylor, the BBC said.
Hannah and her bandmates Tina Barrett, Rachel Stevens, Bradley McIntosh, Jo O’Meara, Jon Lee and Paul Cattermole shot to fame in the late nineties with hits such as Reach, Bring It All Back and S Club Party.
On appearing on the show, Hannah said: “I’m over the moon to be joining the show, it’s such a huge part of British telly.
“I’m really looking forward to getting started and I can’t wait to see the Square in the flesh… Walford here I come.”
The Taylor family first appeared in Albert Square in May but little has been heard of Karen’s sibling.
Spearritt previously starred in ITV’s Primeval.
The news comes just days after the show announced the return of Melanie Owen, played by Tamzin Outwaithe.
Tamzin, who will be back in Walford in the New Year, said she couldn’t refuse the chance to come back as Mel, who was last seen in April 2002, when she had to flee Albert Square when as her life fell apart.
Tamzin said: “When I got the call from John (Yorke, the soap’s creative director) asking if I would consider coming back to EastEnders, it was something I just couldn’t refuse.
“John created Mel’s most memorable storylines so it is an honour that he has asked me to return. EastEnders is in my DNA and I always knew deep down that someday I would revisit Mel; she is a strong independent woman with lots more stories to tell.
“To be stepping back into Mel’s shoes nearly twenty years after I first started feels just perfect.”
