Former EastEnders star Jessie Wallace is planning to make a sensational return to the soap, according to the papers.

The Mirror reports that Wallace – who played Kat Slater – has told friends that she is heading back to Walford to reprise the role that made her a star.

“Jessie is very excited about playing Kat again,” a BBC source told the paper. She’s been off screen for a few years and a lot has happened since she was last in the show.

“She feels the time is right for a return and says she can’t wait to get back into the Square and stuck into some meaty storylines.”

Kat was one of the most popular EastEnders characters of recent years and had a string of memorable storylines, most famously confessing to being the real mum of youngest Slater sister Zoe.

Earlier this week she told GMTV‘s Lorraine Kelly, “They’ve left the door open and I would go back. It’s a great show and I do miss it.”

An EastEnders spokeswoman told the paper there were no “immediate” plans for Jessie to return to Albert Square. “But where big favourites like Kat are concerned, we would never say never.”
