Jessie Wallace turns to crime for new role

Jessie Wallace is apparently set to star in a new BBC drama about female criminals. The 36-year-old former EastEnder most recently appeared on our screens alongside Stephen Tompkinson in ITV family drama Wild At Heart, playing stiletto-wearing Essex girl Amy Kriel. And the actress is now being lined-up to return to the Beeb in Hope Springs – a new drama from the makers of Footballers’ Wives, according to The Sun. Centred around the exploits of four female ex-jailbirds, who are hiding out after committing one crime too many, Jessie has been tipped to play gang leader Ellie. Jessie became a household name as Kat Slater in EastEnders before leaving the soap in 2005. She won a number of awards during her five years in Albert Square, including the Most Popular Actress gong at the 2003 National Television Awards. Since then, she’s appeared in TV dramas A Class Apart and The Dinner Party, as well as playing music hall star Marie Lloyd for BBC Four. She has also made her West End theatre debut, replacing Denise Van Outen as Maureen in Rent at the end of last year.
