EastEnders actress Kierston Wareing has revealed that she will not be too emotional when she leaves the show.

The 37-year-old will make her screen exit as barmaid Kirsty Branning from the BBC soap in 2014, alongside co-stars Phaldut Sharma (AJ Ahmed), Daniel Coonan (Carl White) and Rachel Bright (Poppy Meadow), following the arrival of new producer Dominic Treadwell-Collins.

She told Reveal: “They’ve been lovely to work with, but I wouldn’t say I’m going to miss them. I’m sure they’d say the same about me. That’s the life of this business.

“Everyone’s nice in every job and you say you’re going to stay in contact, but really, it’s like a factory with people coming and going all the time,” she added.

Kierston, who arrived in Albert Square last Christmas Day as Max Branning’s (Jake Wood) secret wife, admitted that the scrutiny and attention from being on the soap has taken her aback.

“I get people saying, ‘Oh, you’re actually nice in real life,’ or ‘My friend hates you, but I’ll have a photo with you’. I didn’t think the public were like that,” she said.

“It’s upsetting because I never went into acting to be commented on, especially on my looks. People ask, ‘Didn’t you realise that before joining EastEnders?’ But I didn’t.”

The actress, who has appeared in Luther, The Take and The Bible, added: “I was naive to it. I haven’t watched the programme since I was about 10, and I didn’t realise people believe in these characters so much.”
