Larry Lamb believes a US version of Gavin and Stacey will be very popular.

The EastEnders star – who plays Gavin’s dad in the BBC Three comedy – says he’s ‘quite sure’ it will be popular in America after rumours that a US version is in the pipeline.

He said: “Oh yeah, it’s a love story – that’s all it is, at the end of the day it’s a love story.

“It wasn’t written as a comedy, it was written as a comedic drama about two young people who fall in love and all the ramifications of that.

“So yeah I’m quite sure it will, I don’t see any great problem with that at all.”

But the actor explained that the writers must be careful to pick the right places in the USA for the story to be set in.

He said: “They’ve got to make sure they set it right – I mean what is it that makes the audience laugh at Billericay and what is that makes them laugh about Wales. It’s that clash of two different, essentially similar cultures, and I’m sure they can match that up in America, no problem at all.”
