Michelle Ryan has brushed off rumours that she received advice from Liza Minelli for her upcoming role starring in Cabaret.

There had been stories that the 28-year-old actress, who is set to take on Liza’s iconic role of Sally Bowles in the West End musical ,alongside former Pop Idol runner-up Will Young as Emcee, had already had some tips from the Hollywood star.

But Michelle insisted: “No, but I did meet her very briefly after her concert. She was charming and lovely – that felt like a nice thing to do before rehearsals start.”

The former EastEnders star can’t wait to return to the stage, where she started her career.

“I’m very excited. It’s a great, great role. It’s a gift,” she said.

“This is what I started doing when I was younger so I feel like I’ve come full circle. I love dancing, being on stage and I’m really enjoying the singing process, which we’ve just started.”

Michelle, who also stars in new films The Man Inside and Cockneys Vs Zombies, added: “This will always be Liza’s role and it’s just been loaned out to me. It’s not like I’m trying to fill her shoes because it’s a new production.”
