Former EastEnders favourite Nick Berry is reported to be making a return to Albert Square after 21 years away.
Nick, who played Simon Wicks, is apparently being lured back with screen brother David, played by Michael French.
It’s believed the characters will be part of a shock storyline for the festive season that sees mum Pat Butcher killed off.
Actress Pam St Clement, who plays the soap’s iconic character, announced earlier this year that she was quitting after 25 years on the show.
Producers hope Nick and Michael can help give the soap legend a major send-off.
Nick began playing Wicksy in 1985, leaving in 1990 when his character emigrated. He then played PC Nick Rowan in Heartbeat for six years.
He also had a number one hit with Every Loser Wins.
Michael played David Wicks from 1993 to 1996 before joining Holby City and Casualty as consultant Nick Jordan.
An insider told The Sun: “Producers are working flat out to get Nick and Michael on board.
“Nick hasn’t done any major TV work for the best part of a decade. To get him back into Albert Square would be a major coup.”
An EastEnders spokeswoman said: “There has been a lot of speculation about Pat’s departure. However, we are not going to comment as we do not want to spoil it for the viewers.”
