Ross Kemp has revealed he gets more of a thrill from making his documentary series than he did from acting.

Ross Kemp Back On The Frontline (tonight, Sky1 HD) is the former EastEnders star’s third series filmed in Afghanistan and he admits he enjoys it more than acting.

Ross said: “It’s very rewarding being an actor, but I don’t get the same buzz from it.

“At the end of the day I finished acting, would go home or go out with my wife (former News International chief executive Rebekah Brooks from whom he was divorced in 2009) and that would be great, but when you’re out on the ground you just have a laugh and it’s exciting.

“Now when I come home to my fiancee, I can sit there and bore her for hours about what I’ve done and been up to.”

The 47-year-old TV presenter hopes his documentary style is straight-talking and not pompous.

Ross laughed: “If I can understand it then everyone else can.”

He added: “I can’t stand documentary makers who talk to me as if I’m the thickest person on the planet. ‘Ha, ha, aren’t you so lucky that I’m going to impart this pearl of wisdom and stick it in your face?'” he said.

“I don’t have that pompous attitude because I don’t have that pompous background. Hopefully we don’t do it in that lecture-like way.”
