Shane Richie is apparently begging to reprise his role as Alfie Moon in EastEnders.

The actor-singer was written out of the hit BBC soap in December 2005 and has since had a string of acting roles. But according to The Sun he would really rather return to Albert Square.

“I’d love to go back to EastEnders. I look forward to the day a call comes from the producers saying, ‘We want Alfie back’.

“Barbara Windsor is always telling me Alfie should return. But who knows?”

Sadly for Shane, a BBC spokesman told the newspaper: “Shane was brilliant as Alfie but there are no plans to bring him back.”

Since the 44-year-old actor left EastEnders he has starred in ITV drama The Good Samaritan, Channel 4’s award-winning Skins, voiced a rat in 2006 animated film Flushed Away and is currently starring in a stage adaptation of One Flew Over The Cuckoo’s Nest, touring the UK.

In March this year Shane’s entertainment company Frontline Productions went bust, with debts of over £370,000.

Shane has been linked to a revival of Minder on Five and this Sunday begins hosting new Sky One music gameshow Don’t Forget The Lyrics.
