It’s an EastEnders love-in as the final series of New Tricks draws to a close. Chatting to What’s on TV Tamzin Outhwaite reveals the addition of Ex-EastEnders’ stars Tracy-Ann Oberman and Larry Lamb to the New Tricks cast has made for a fun dynamic both on and off screen…
Tamzin, who has played DCI Sasha Miller in New Tricks since 2013 said: “It’s difficult to finish a long-running series like New Tricks especially when you’re not the original cast. In my head I think an awful lot of fans would have loved to see the old cast come back, but obviously that’s not possible because we’re the new team now.
“But I’ve adored working with Tracy-Ann Oberman and Larry Lamb. We were never in EastEnders together, but Tracy and I met when we were both doing plays at Hampstead. So when she came into New Tricks I was really delighted.”
Tamzin added: “I love working with all the men, but when Tracy came along I realised I was turning into a boy from hanging out with so many blokes!”
The East End connection didn’t end there…
Tamzin said: “Larry’s another EastEnders link. I love Larry! He brings a nice warmth to New Tricks and it’s been lovely having him around. His character’s got stuff going on that’s not the norm. I can’t say what it is, but it’s going to be unexpected!”
Tamzin starred in EastEnders from 1998 to 2002 as troubled Melanie Owen. Tracy-Ann played Chrissie Watts in the London-set soap from 2004 until 2005. And Larry Lamb terrified the nation and the inhabitants of Albert Square as villain Archie Mitchell from 2008 to 2009.
When the latest episode of New Tricks screens on Tuesday there are shocked faces all round when DCI Sasha Miller rushes back to work, although she’s still in a wheelchair while recovering from her gunshot injury. Watch it on BBC at 9pm.
