Thomas Law: ‘I declined EastEnders return’

Thomas Law has revealed he was invited back to EastEnders to reprise his role as Peter Beale.

The World’s End star quit the BBC One soap in December 2010 after four years playing the character.

Soap bosses recently brought back Peter, this time played by newcomer Ben Hardy.

Thomas, 20, told Digital Spy he was asked back, but it felt like the wrong time: “There was some discussion about it, but we felt it just wasn’t the right time for me to go back,” he said.

He said of his decision to leave the show: “It was a mutual decision. I felt it was time to move on and develop my career in other directions, and they agreed that the character had run its course for the time being.”

Thomas said that he still catches up with the goings on in Albert Square. “Of course – EastEnders completely changed my life and I made some brilliant friends. I don’t have much time to watch television at the moment, but I do like to check in on the show from time to time and see how everyone’s doing, and I always watch out to see how they do at the awards.

“It has been a huge part of my life and I am very grateful to have been part of such an influential show,” he said, adding that he’d consider joining another soap if the right opportunity came up.
