Actor Matthew Wolfenden has hinted that his character could end up going too far.
Emmerdale viewers have heard David Metcalfe vow: ‘I’ll get my son back if it kills me.’ But could David end up killing Maya instead?
On Tuesday, viewers will see David interrupt another meeting between his teenage son Jacob and his ex-fiancee Maya Stepney, after roping Ryan Stocks in to help him track Jacob’s laptop.
The police will take Maya into custody, but it’s been hinted that David could confront her for a final showdown if and when she’s released on bail.
‘All he feels for Maya now is hate,’ actor Matthew Wolfenden told Metro.co.uk. ‘David loses the plot a bit and goes through some really dark times. Yes, he’s angry with Jacob and feels betrayed by him, but David is trying to push those feelings down and just go for Maya.’
Many fans thought Maya had been killed after her showdown in the woods with Leyla, Priya and Tracy. The trio left the manipulative schoolteacher for dead when she collapsed after a rock to the head, delivered by Jacob’s mum, Leyla Harding.
But could she be set to meet her fate at the hands of ex-boyfriend David instead?
‘Maya has always felt guilty for the way she’s treated David,’ actress Louisa Clein told the RadioTimes. ‘She cares for David but she can’t handle a challenging, adult relationship. With Jacob, she thinks she loves him and it’s something she could absolutely invest in. He adores her and doesn’t challenge her.’
‘David can’t get his head around it,’ Matthew added. ‘David tells her it’s a sick fantasy. He’s a schoolboy and she’s his teacher. She still thinks she and Jacob can be together and offers to leave Jacob and the village for good if David lets her go, but David has called the police.’
And while we know Maya will be arrested next week, Matthew has teased that this won’t be the end of the storyline…
Emmerdale continues on ITV.
