Charity Macey is in the ‘firing line’ for Emmerdale’s big autumn drama

Emmerdale schemer Charity Macey looks set to be at the centre of the next big autumn drama in the soap, producer Kate Oates has hinted.

Charity, played by Emma Atkins, has been making potential enemies by framing Rachel Breckle (Gemma Oaten) for the fire at Home Farm at Christmas, and telling husband Declan (Jason Merrells) that she had a miscarriage to cover up her abortion.

Now, Kate has hinted that she could be at the centre of what is becoming the ITV soap’s most dramatic period, after Carl King (Tom Lister) was killed off in autumn 2012 and last year’s siege at The Woolpack.

She said: “It’s definitely going to be a big autumn. We’ve got a short tradition now of trying to go really big in the autumn. I don’t necessarily want us to get into a place where we’re tying ourselves in knots to do a stunt every October because then it stops becoming about story and starts becoming about being in competition with yourself.

“But we have got a massive storyline coming up in the autumn – and it may be Charity in the firing line this time. You’ll just have to see what happens there. But it’ll go quite dark.”

Charity will be faced with a dilemma in the coming week when a flirty new client propositions her in return for an order – but will she go through with it?
