Emmerdale’s Michael Parr quits ITV soap to ‘explore other avenues’

The Dales' resident bad boy will be leaving for good later this year

Emmerdale’s Ross Barton will be saying farewell to Emmerdale after an explosive five years, it has been confirmed.

Michael Parr, 31, confirmed the news via Twitter saying it was “time to move on”.

“Yes I’ll be leaving the soap soon. Have had the best few years at Emmerdale but it’s time to move on and explore other avenues. If I win that soap award I might stay though,” he tweeted.

Commenting on Michael’s decision, Emmerdale’s acting series producer Kate Brooks told The Sun: “Michael Parr will leave Emmerdale later this year at the end of his current contract.

“His decision to pursue other acting opportunities has given the writing team the opportunity to create an intriguing storyline for his exit.

“Michael, who is nominated for Best Actor at the British Soap Awards next month, will leave the show on a high after brilliantly portraying Ross for five years.”

Tonight will see Ross confront wealthy property developer Joe with a gun after he discovers that Simon was paid to keep his mouth shut in court about the acid attack.

Joe is alarmed to turn up and find Ross at his house, brandishing a weapon and Graham already bound up. As Ross shouts out a series of threats, will Joe finally reveal the truth, that Debbie was responsible for the acid attack? Or will he keep quiet to protect her?
