Emmerdale’s Fiona Wade tells Soaplife that Priya’s showdown with Alicia is what leads the new mother to make a dramatic decision…

Priya’s baby comes home to a rapturous welcome, but one person isn’t cheering. Alicia is sick of the sight of Priya and David playing happy families with little Amba and tells her rival that she and David will leave the village if she doesn’t back off. “Priya is genuinely horrified that Alicia feels so strongly,” Fiona tells Soaplife. But is jumping into an arranged marriage really the answer?

Does Priya feel the baby is bringing her and David closer?

“Definitely, at least at the beginning. They have this beautiful baby together and it is sad as it highlights what could have been. But they want to make the baby the priority.”

Is Priya aware that Alicia is upset and feeling left out?

“No. She is not thinking past how nice it is to have David’s support. She certainly isn’t leaving Alicia out on purpose.”

David’s support means he misses Jacob’s sports day. What happens?

“David is helping Priya with Amba and falls asleep cradling the baby. It is how she fantasised it would be between them. She wants it to go on forever, so she switches his phone off to make the moment last. It’s not malicious, it’s just a bad decision.”

And leads to Alicia confronting Priya about her feelings for David… How does Priya react?

“They have a face-off and some harsh words are said and, you know, Alicia is fighting for her guy and Priya is genuinely horrified that Alicia thinks what she thinks. But Priya is a strong girl and she fights back. It comes to a head and Alicia tells Priya that if she doesn’t back off they will move away and that really shakes Priya up.”

Does Priya still love David?

“She will always love him, but I don’t think she wants to get back with him. She wishes things were different and dreams of what it would be like if they were still together, but she knows she has to move on.”

So Priya decides she wants an arranged marriage. That’s a bit drastic, isn’t it?

“Priya doesn’t want to have to rely on David and realises she needs someone of her own, who will look after her and Amba. She’s a traditional girl at heart and she doesn’t want to be a single parent. She hasn’t got the time to go out there dating and wants it to happen quickly, so she asks her dad to set it up for her.”
