Emmerdale will pay tribute to the late Richard Thorp is a special episode of the soap.

The actor – who recently died at the age of 81 – was the ITV show’s longest-serving cast member, having played retired pub landlord Alan Turner for more than 30 years.

An Emmerdale spokesperson confirmed the episode screening on Tuesday, June 4, will include an on-screen dedication to Richard.

The hour-long episode has been chosen as it features Alan Turner’s final appearance in the Dales.

Richard joined Emmerdale in 1982. The character of Alan started out as a scheming businessman and a bit of a soap villain, but he changed over the years and became landlord of the village pub The Woolpack.

Emmerdale series producer Kate Oates said: “Richard’s death is a sad loss to Emmerdale, of which he was at the heart for so many wonderful years. Richard had a brilliant sense of humour and he will be missed by every single member of our production, whose lives he touched.”
