Emmerdale star Gaynor Faye has confessed she almost gave up acting before she was cast as Megan Macey in the soap.

The 40-year-old actress – whose previous roles include Judy Mallett in Corrie – joined the Dales in October and her character was first seen in February.

But before that she worked on BBC One drama The Syndicate and told Loose Women how she had thought of getting a job behind the scenes.

Gaynor revealed: “I actually script edited The Syndicate, and I started to do that thinking that was more for me. I wanted to be at home and see my kids growing up, because you blink and they’ve gone off to university.

“I’ve toured for three or four years before that, doing lots of theatre and things. In fact, I was at the point of thinking of changing my career – starting writing and getting into the script editing more.”

But now she is working at the Emmerdale studios in Leeds she is much closer to home.

She said: “It’s such bliss to be able to wake from my own bed.”

The Fat Friends star also revealed she was impressed by Emmerdale’s storyline surrounding paralysed Jackson Walsh’s assisted suicide, and thought she would like to work on the show.

She said: “I’d watched the suicide plot, and I just thought that they researched it so well. They handled it all so sensitively.

“I remember watching an interview with the producers and the cast members on This Morning, and just thinking what a great show it was and going, ‘Oh, that’s Yorkshire!’

“Then I thought nothing more of it, and it all just fell into place, really.”
