Emmerdale’s Toni Daggart is to set her sights on newcomer David Metcalfe – but don’t expect it to lead to a lasting romance.
Kerry Stacey, who plays the feisty barmaid, says: “He’s the sexiest man in the Dales, but Toni just sees him as a chance to cause havoc.”
The trouble begins when her character tells Paddy she’ll marry him after he gives her a ring for Christmas, only to discover at their engagement party that he never intended it to be a proposal. Feeling humiliated, Toni decides to seek comfort with Eric Pollard’s long-lost son, but she has an ulterior motive for seeking him out.
Kerry admits her on-screen alter ego has never forgiven Del Dingle for accidentally burning her with hot fat during a scuffle over Paddy, and makes a beeline for David because she knows it will hurt her rival. The actress says the incident will also spell the end for Toni and the kindly vet.
Kerry first arrived in Emmerdale in 2005, but it wasn’t her first foray into soapland. She’d previously appeared in The Bill, Casualty and four episodes of Doctors. Her other small-screen credits include The Locksmith, A Thing Called Love and The Afternoon Play.
She made her movie debut in 1999, when she won a small part in the film Felicia’s Journey.
