Fears that actor James Sutton may quit Emmerdale have encouraged soap bosses to ensure he renews his contract, according to The Sun.

James, 27, is meant to play mechanic Ryan Lamb until March next year, but after three other character exits, Emmerdale’s bosses are apparently desperate for him to sign another contract with them.

The actor, who has previously starred in Hollyoaks, has apparently told bosses that he is considering all his options.

The other actors who have announced their departure from the ITV soap include Alice Coulthard, Ryan’s half-sister Maisie Wylde, and Amanda Donohue, who plays stepmum Natasha Wylde.

Both are set to leave the show at Christmas.

The third to refuse to renew their contract was Lyndon Ogbourne, who plays Nathan Wylde.

A source apparently said: “Losing one star is an accident – losing four is careless.

“The Wylde family leave over Christmas and New Year. If Ryan goes as well it’s a hammer blow to carefully worked-out plans.”

Bosses on the ITV soap have huge plans for James’s character.

The Sun’s source commented: “After the Wylde clan dropped off one by one, they started storylining big plans for James’s character Ryan who is massively popular with viewers.

“The plan was to get him out of jail and back in the village by New Year.

“But that could all change if James doesn’t sign up again.”

An Emmerdale spokeswoman confirmed James is negotiating his new contract.
