Natalie Anderson has revealed that she will be leaving Emmerdale on a “cliffhanger”.

The 30-year-old actress, who plays Alicia Gallagher on the ITV1 soap, is set to leave screens in coming weeks and finished filming her exit scenes over the weekend.

“The way that they leave it is very much on a cliffhanger. When I read it, I was like, ‘No! Oh my God!’,” she said on This Morning.

“So hopefully the audience will be willing her to come back!” she added.

Natalie – who is taking maternity leave as she prepares for the birth of her first child with husband James Shepherd – admitted she was pleasantly surprised to be involved in a major storyline.

“I definitely can come back and I definitely hope to be back by the end of the year. But it was a huge surprise for me,” she said.

Alicia is facing prison after being violent towards Val Pollard (Charlie Hardwick) and is set to get married to David Metcalfe (Matthew Wolfenden) in a sham wedding.

“I genuinely thought I would have just been going off to see my sister, wherever she is. And then this huge storyline came about with a previous conviction, the fact that she’s falling in love with David as well…” she continued.

“It was just so elaborate, I was like, ‘Thank you so much, I’m really grateful!’.”
