And they're off! Rio 2016 begins as Chris Froome hits the road for Team GB...

The Men’s Cycling Road Race today will feature Team GB’s Chris Froome, just back from winning his third Tour de France race and determined to pick up a gold medal to add to the bronze he won at London 2012. He’s got a very tough challenge ahead: a 256.4km course which incorporates steep climbs, pure flat sections and eight kilometres of cobblestones. The British contingent will be looking to make right what went horribly wrong during London’s 2012 Olympics race, when they started perfectly, but were caught out on the final lap. Mark Cavendish was the highest-placed British rider, coming in a sorry 29th. Time to rectify…
