The hunt is on for a team of chefs to create a banquet in honour of some extraordinary Brits

The sophisticated cooking series returns and, this time, the prize is to showcase contemporary British cuisine at a lavish banquet at the Palace of Westminster. Once again, the often hard-to-please trio of Oliver Peyton, Prue Leith and Matthew Fort return to judge the competing chefs’ efforts.

The guests for the banquet are a group of ‘Great Britons’ or ordinary folk who have done something extraordinary and have been honoured by none other than the Queen. In tonight’s first heat (there are eight heats, with 24 chefs in total hoping to impress), three chefs from Scotland battle to create the best starter.

The theme is to show how British food has changed during the Queen’s reign so dishes include a new take on a classic haggis dish, plus more modern and slightly off-the-wall flavours of birch sap and Douglas fir oil!
