After the Tahitian hotel founded by Marlon Brando last week, Giles Coren and Monica Galetti are off to somewhere higher and drier this week as they head to the Sultanate of Oman and Anantara Al Jabal Al Akhdar hotel, at 2,000 metres, the highest five-star hotel in
the Middle East.

Though it tries to blend the best of Omani tradition with the sort of pampering and luxury international travellers will expect, the big sell here is the view – a phenomenal Grand Canyon-style drop of thousands of feet from your verandah or infinity pool beneath the roof
of the world.

The price – up to £6,000 a night – is breathtaking, too.
