There’s a lot to cram into this final episode of The Art of France. It’s odd to learn that the same paintings which now adorn tea towels were once thought of as raw and edgy, from Monet’s Impression, Sunrise to Degas’ urban paintings such as L’Absinthe.

As Andrew Graham-Dixon rattles through Impressionism, Post-Impressionism and Surrealism, there’s an astonishing artist roll-call including Renoir, Cézanne, Gauguin, Matisse and Picasso. Informative, fascinating and entertaining in equal parts.
