Buddy Holly: Rave On

A look at the all-too-short life of one of the pioneers of modern music Buddy Holly

Elvis may have changed the face of music, but it was Buddy Holly who inspired singer-songwriters and guitarists such as Bob Dylan and Bruce Springsteen and, most of all, The Beatles, whose very name pays homage to The Crickets.

This new documentary looks back at Holly’s shockingly short career (he was killed in a plane crash in 1959, aged 22, just 18 months after his first No 1) with contributions from fans of Holly’s music and those who knew him.

There’s a theme to this evening on BBC4, as Rave On is preceded by It’s Only Rock ‘n’ Roll (9.00pm), featuring music from Jerry Lee Lewis among others, then at 11.00pm you can see Kings of Rock ‘n’ Roll.
