Warning: Contains spoilers about Ethan, David, Mason and many more Casualty favourites!
In Casualty this week divisive junior doctor Mason Reede is intriguingly under the spotlight. Elsewhere, Ethan Hardy’s unhealthy attachment to patient Effie grows, and David Hide is floored when ex-wife Rosalene launches a custody battle.
Love sick Ethan?
Doctor Ethan Hardy’s unhealthy attachment to patient Effie Laurence becomes even more complex this week! Having recently lied to medical colleagues and doctored Effie’s patient notes in order to get her on a cystic fibrosis trial, Ethan (George Rainsford) has already crossed countless ethical lines.
This week Effie (Abigail Hardingham) comes to him for advice on whether or not she should go through with the trial. For once, Ethan manages to give her neutral advice.
Later, however, when distressed Effie’s admitted to the ED with breathing difficulties, will Ethan be able to hide his growing feelings and remain impartial?
Custody battle lines drawn?
Nurse David Hide (Jason Durr) is stunned when he gets a letter from ex-wife Rosalene formally demanding that their son Ollie return to live with her.
With both David and Ollie unable to express their true feelings about this shocking development the harmony of the Hide household is under threat.
Fortunately new lodger and hospital porter Rosa is on hand to ride to their rescue again this week. However, is this matter beyond even Rosa?
Mason’s stony exterior exposed
Snatches of junior doctor Mason’s home life are revealed over the course of one particularly difficult working week, but will this explain why he’s determined to succeed no matter what the cost to others? (By ‘others’ we mean poorly patients and resident ED doormat, Rash!)
Keep an eye out for Hi-Di-Hi! star Ruth Madoc as kind-hearted patient Millie. She takes a shine to Mason, but is at risk from young medic’s inexperience and ego… (More on this below)
Other milestones for Mason in Casualty this week…
Ethan postpones an important meeting with Mason to spend time with Effie.
Rash’s true colours shine through this week. When the generous-minded young doctor sees Mason in need of support he reaches out to him. Will Mason accept the hand of friendship?
Meanwhile, Jade makes her feelings clear about Mason’s manners – or lack of them. Will he care?
Mason’s Casualty guest star storylines
Ruth Madoc guest stars in Casualty as Millie Faulkner, who is more concerned about junior doctor Mason being rushed off his feet than her own health. Millie’s brought herself to the ED at the insistence of daughter Chloe (Stella star Michelle McTernan), suffering with a chronic cough and chest pains.
After running a series of tests Mason concludes Millie’s well enough to go home. Later, however, Mason panics when he realises he’s made a basic but potentially serious mistake. Will Millie suffer the consequences?
Also this week, Tafline Steen plays patient Corina Samways. She’s admitted to the ED after a drunken fall. When Mason criticises her life choices, will she put him in his place?
Whatever your feelings on Mason, there’s no denying Victor Oshin impressively captures his many complexities.
Casualty continues on BBC1 this Saturday at 9.20pm
