Seattle high-school students Dane DeHaan, Michael B Jordan and Alex Russell suddenly gain telekinetic powers after a brush with a glowing extraterrestrial object.

At first, they have fun documenting their pranks on video, using mind control to lift cheerleaders’ skirts with a leaf blower, for example, or moving a car across a parking lot behind its owner’s back. But things get seriously out of hand when Dehaan’s brooding loner begins to cause harm.

This is an inventive sci-fi, even if the effects aren’t exactly eye-popping, and the cast creates such convincing characters that even when the action on screen defies the laws of physics the story remains grounded in believable emotional reality.
