The life of Dave Allen comes under the spotlight in this biopic starring Game of Thrones’ Aidan Gillen as the legendary but sometimes controversial comic.

From his childhood in Ireland to his glory days in the 70s and 80s and his relationship with his equally hilarious but troubled brother John (Conleth Hill), the drama delivers an entertaining and moving profile, with Aidan having a ball dressing up as everything from a naughty priest to a strip-teasing Pope in sketches that echo Dave Allen’s style.

Look out for some cameos from Robert Bathurst as a BBC boss, and Pauline McLynn as one of the terrifying nuns who inspired the comic’s satirical take on religion.
