This stunt-filled remake of 1975’s Death Race 2000 sees convict Jason Statham offered freedom if he wins a lethal road race.

Loud and soulless, but exciting, director Paul WS Anderson’s film does exactly what it says on the tin – there’s a race and lots of deaths.

Statham and Tyrese Gibson (in David Carradine and Sylvester Stallone’s old roles as Frankenstein and Machine Gun Joe) certainly look the part as rival drivers who just might be capable of killing all the other competitors.

Joan Allen adds class as the evil head of the prison, while Ian McShane and Natalie Martinez also make their mark in a movie that thunders along at breakneck pace.
