Would-be journalist Anne Hathaway lands a dream job as second assistant to Meryl Streep.
Streep’s the fearsome editor of a prestigious New York fashion magazine and, arrogant, dismissive and mercurial to a fault, she’s the boss from hell.
However, as Streep exercises her power over her employees through constant daily put-downs and petty humiliations, Hathaway, readily taking to her vacuous new lifestyle, proves she’s more than up to the challenge.
Sweeping all before her, Oscar-nominated Streep is superb as she throws her weight and posh designer gear around, Hathaway is just right, Stanley Tucci is excellent as Streep’s long-suffering art director and Emily Blunt is especially good as Streep’s neurotic first assistant.
Packed with witty one-liners and funny situations, this is a joy.
