Ex-Brookside and stage musical star Claire Sweeney guests in today’s episode of Doctors as Tracey Sanders, who has become estranged from her daughter Amal, since she converted to Islam.
Tracey meets surgery midwife Ruhma Carter and tells her she’s worried about pregnant Amal and whether the two of them will ever reconcile.
Ruhma gets to meet Amal herself, when she comes in for an appointment. But Amal is feeling dizzy since she’s fasting for Ramadan.
Ruhma explains that pregnant women don’t have to fast during Ramadan. But Amal appears committed to the cause and is determined to use the experience to make her empathise with others less fortunate.
Can Ruhma find a way to help build bridges between Tracey and Amal?
Elsewhere in Letherbridge, it’s Ayesha Lee’s first day at University as she begins a training course to become qualified to write prescriptions for patients.
However, life in student-land doesn’t get off to a very good start when a pompous fellow student, Oliver Short arrives late and starts talking down to Ayesha and the rest of the class.
Hmm, looks like nobody warned Oliver it is NOT a good idea to get on the wrong side of Ayesha!
Meanwhile, back at The Mill, it looks like receptionist Karen Hollins has rumbled what’s going on between practice manager Becky Clarke and the surgery’s new cleaner, Enzo D’Agostino. Will she expose the secret lovers?
Doctors continues weekdays at 1:45pm on BBC One
