Ever since Max Branning and his not-so blushing bride Rainie, arrived back in the Square, everyone’s been avoiding them like the plague. Nobody has forgotten the devastating role Max played in daughter Abi’s death, but they’re also not over the fact he was in chaoots with evil businessman James Willmott-Brown.
But as Max (played by Jake Wood) desperately tries to prove he’s a changed man so he can win custody of granddaughter Abi, it seems he’s slowly getting things in place to prove to the social worker that he’s the right person to raise his daughter’s baby. On paper he’s perfect – he has his own business, a new wife, and now a roof over his head thanks to brother Jack.
But he’s hit a major snag at the last moment – character references. No matter how hard you look, there’s not a soul in Walford who will put down on paper that Max is an honest and trustworthy man. After several failed attempts elsewhere, Rainie points out there is one person who could have a soft spot for him… Stacey Slater.
Max, though, isn’t sure… Will he get desperate enough to ask his ex?
Elsewhere, Karen works out that it was her ex Mitch who stole Ted’s money and she vows to pay him back. Plus, Keanu is in Phil’s bad books…
