Medical student Kiefer Sutherland has the bright idea of making himself clinically dead and then coming back to life to report on his experiences.
His friends Kevin Bacon, Julia Roberts and William Baldwin soon join in to produce flatlines on the blipping medical monitor, too, but their dangerous experiments soon lead to some unexpected results.
The film is pompous (Everything we do matters!) and short on convincing suspense, with oppressively flashy visuals – all billowing steam and murky blue light – that makes both life and death look like 1980s pop videos gone wrong.
However, the enthusiastic cast keeps us watching and it is great to see the A-listers looking so fresh-faced.
