As ward manager of Holby’s AAU, Adrian ‘Fletch’ Fletcher is dedicated to his job, running a tight ship at work while raising four kids as a single dad. Fortunately, he’s always had the support of general surgeon Serena Campbell and ex-army medic-turned-trauma surgeon Bernie Wolfe. But this week, the two women are pushed to the limit as they battle to save his life…

It’s a busy day on AAU, and Fletch is looking after James Fielding, a former patient of Bernie’s, who’s convinced she’s in danger. Fletch urges Bernie (Jemma Redgrave) to arrange a psychiatric consultation for James but Bernie doesn’t feel he poses any immediate threat.

Events take a dramatic turn, however, when Fletch (Alex Walkinshaw) finds James in the basement with a screwdriver, threatening a patient he thinks wants to kill Bernie. Fletch tries to calm down James but when he makes a sudden move, James accidentally stabs him in the stomach! Fletch is rushed straight into theatre, where Bernie and Serena fight to save their friend and colleague…

As Fletch is moved to intensive care, Bernie tells Serena she blames herself for the fact Fletch is now fighting for his life! Serena desperately tries to reassure Serena it wasn’t her fault, praising her as a doctor and a person. Then, in a moment of passion, the pair kiss! What will these mean for their friendship?

Also, still grieving for her late husband Arthur and struggling to cope on AAU, Morven seeks solace in charity work at a homeless shelter. However, the respite from work doesn’t last long when both Jasmine and Bernie’s son Cameron encourage her to join them on a night out with Jez and Iain from the Holby’s ED. Morven surprises herself as she dances the night away… it seems she’s learning how to live again…
