During his two years on Casualty, charge nurse Adrian ‘Fletch’ Fletcher caused quite a stir in Holby City Hospital’s Emergency Department, not least because of his affair with clinical nurse manager Tess Bateman, which saw her abort his baby. Now separated from wife Natalie, Fletch recently quit his job on the ED and this week joins Holby City as the new ward manager on AAU.

With Holby boss Guy Self putting his faith in him, Fletch hopes the promotion will help him make a fresh start – but he soon realises he might not be able to leave his bad boy image behind when Ric makes it clear he’s got his eye on him. Meanwhile, director of nursing Colette Sheward is annoyed to learn Guy’s hired a new ward manager behind her back – and she’s horrified to discover it’s Fletch!

But, like it or not, Fletch and Colette have to team up to treat biker, Stoner, who’s diagnosed with a cyst on his liver. When Fletch saves Stoner with a spur-of-the-moment tricky procedure, Ric’s impressed. Later, in Albie’s, Fletch and Colette’s past is revealed – but can they put aside their differences and work together?

Meanwhile, a nervous Sacha witnesses Essie sharing a kiss on the cheek with Mr T and becomes a paranoid wreck. Goaded by a jealous and over-competitive patient, Sacha becomes convinced that Essie is having it off with Mr T and confronts him as only the bumbling Sacha can.

Also, it’s Elliot’s first day back on Darwin following his brain surgery. But he’s reminded that his illness hasn’t gone away when Adele lets slip about it to a patient, who then refuses to allow Elliot to operate on them…
