How easy is it for young people from disadvantaged backgrounds to overcome their circumstances and follow their dreams?

This two-parter asks exactly that question, and tonight’s first episode (the series concludes tomorrow) follows three promising 13-year-old girls from low-income families as they prepare to begin their GCSEs.

In Port Talbot, talented writer Anne Marie is desperate to go to university, Jada from Birmingham dreams of being a paediatrician and in Tamworth, Shakira wants to become an artist and help her seriously ill little brother.

The programme-makers will be catching up with the teenagers in two years’ time to continue the series.
