Zak didn’t want a birthday party but there was no stopping Lisa. It’s not that he doesn’t want to celebrate being 60, he just doesn’t feel like celebrating at all. He nearly killed his son and isn’t proud of it. He just wanted to bring Cain to heel, but couldn’t control his anger and ended up beating Cain to within an inch of his life. Now he has to live with that and he’s struggling. So is Nikhil. He’s at the party with Gennie, but can’t stomach Zak’s birthday cake – and Zak can’t stomach the fact that Aaron is keeping his distance.

Ashley and Laurel will soon be a great distance from Emmerdale if Ashley gets his way – and it looks like he will. The Bishop tells Ashley he’s got the job he went for and he’s thrilled. Great! They can leave behind all their woes – and Marlon. But Laurel isn’t celebrating. In fact, she feels sick – and she’s worried she could be pregnant.

Ali and Ruby are worried about money – they can’t even afford to heat the cottage. Sean tells Belle how tight things are at home and Sam tells him how he can help feed the family: by shooting rabbits. Yeah, putting a gun in Sean’s hands is a great idea…

*Second episode*

There hasn’t been much fizz to the party atmosphere at Zak’s 60th, but the whole thing falls completely flat when Aaron walks out. Chas is not impressed, but doesn’t know what to do. Neither does anyone else. Belle’s happy, though, when Zak says Sean can come for tea. And the whole day is rescued for Zak when Aaron later shakes his hand in a truce. That’s progress – of sorts.

Laurel thinks if she’s pregnant it will help her and Ashley make progress with their fresh start. But she realises she’s very wrong when she shows Ashley the pregnancy test she’s about to take. He’s not happy, he’s distraught – and that’s because he thinks that if there is a baby it could be Marlon’s. That means he doesn’t believe that Laurel didn’t sleep with Marlon – and that means their relationship is in real trouble. Laurel takes the test and tells Ashley she’s not pregnant. Phew! But then she tells him she thinks they should split up. Now Ashley feels sick…

Gennie feels happy – so happy that she wants Nikhil to move in with her. But if you try to run before you can walk you could trip yourself up…
