There are celebrations galore as Holby City marks its 1000th episode - and a very special guest in attendance as actor Paul Bradley returns as Elliot Hope
It’s Holby City’s 150th anniversary and director of nursing Adrian ‘Fletch’ Fletcher (Alex Walkinshaw) is organising a plaque unveiling by a special guest – the junior Health Minister. However, they don’t turn up so the local MP comes instead. Fletch soon realises, however, that the real VIP is 90-year-old Josie, a ‘regular customer’ to Holby over the years, who was born there. Disaster strikes on the big day, however, when a man armed with fireworks turns up to protest about his wife’s lack of cancer treatment.
It’s also something of a milestone for Jac Naylor (Rosie Marcel), as she’s set to perform her 1000th heart transplant. Unfortunately, Jac’s not on her A-game since finding out from Jonny’s new wife Stacey that he’s planning a move to Edinburgh! Clearly feeling vulnerable, Jac gets a wonderful surprise when her old friend and mentor Elliot Hope (Paul Bradley) turns up!
But when Elliot discovers Jac’s no longer clinical lead on Darwin, then she informs him that Jonny wants custody of Emma AND it becomes clear that she hasn’t yet come to terms with the death of her sister Jasmine two years ago, Elliot’s deeply concerned about his old friend.
When Jac then fails to comfort Emma after she’s almost hit by an ambulance, then she turns up late for her landmark surgery, Elliot has genuine fears about Jac’s mental state. And it’s soon revealed that Elliot has his own reasons for being back at Holby…
Holby City continues Tuesday at 8pm on BBC1.
