After hitch-hiking her way out of Summer Bay to avoid having a police psychiatric assessment over her reckless behaviour, troubled Karen Thompson returns to town and immediately goes to hideout at her son Dean’s caravan.

With the police still on Karen’s case after she almost run down Surf Club boss John Palmer in her car, Dean faces the dilemma of whether to report Karen’s return to his policeman pal Colby Thorne.

But, instead, Dean tries to convince Karen to have the psych assessment. However, when the pair get into an argument, Karen snaps and unexpectedly whacks Dean on the head with a frying pan! Is Dean dead?

Seemingly unaware of what she has just done, Karen carries on cooking, unaware she’s left the oven on and the caravan is slowly filling with gas…
