Terry is an overseas officer – his job is to collect money from non-British residents when they use the NHS. We follow Terry as he visits a lady from Nigeria who fell ill on a flight and ended up giving birth to her quadruplets dangerously early.

Sadly, only three babies survive and they all need is neonatal intensive care. ‘She has three babies in ICU. So that’s £20,000 a week for each baby, plus her own charges,’ says Terry of the bill, which will probably end up coming in at half a million pounds.

In 2015/16 overseas patient charges were £4m and Terry and his team collected £1.6m. Unsurprisingly, making people pay can be a painful process.
