Interior Design Masters – BBC2

Presenter Fearne Cotton on how BBC2’s new interior design contest Interior Design Masters will change rooms – and may even change lives…

From Changing Rooms to Homes Under the Hammer, there’s no denying the joy of the ‘before’ and ‘after’ of a makeover show, and BBC2’s new eight-part interior design contest, Interior Design Masters, is no exception.

Blend in some Bake Off kindness and a dash of The Apprentice competitiveness, and you’re on to a winner.

Tonight, 10 wannabe interior designers decorate two show homes in Northumberland, and soon wallpaper isn’t the only thing clashing!

Will judge Michelle Ogundehin be as wowed as presenter Fearne Cotton (both pictured above) by pink arches, a black bedroom and wood panelling?

Each week, the contestants will be set a different commercial challenge, ranging from shops to hair salons – then Michelle and a guest judge (including Mary Portas, Jade Jagger and Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen) will decide who has room to improve and who’s out of the race.

A colourful sample of spectator TV designed to brighten up the country!

Here Fearne, 37, tells us more…

Contestants on Interior Design Masters

Who’s got the best eye for detail in BBC2’s Interior Design Masters?

What appealed to you most about Interior Design Masters?

Interiors have always been massively exciting to me.

The way you can change the feel of a home, create warmth, space or comfort by using colour and texture – it’s really quite magical.

I also hugely respect our head judge, Michelle, so I knew it would be a corker of a show!

What’s your own design style?

Eclectic.

I’m a neat freak but I’m not into modern or clean lines.

Our house is old and rickety and has a ton of character, so it’s in keeping with that.

Have you had any decorating disasters over the years?

Yes, so many!

In my first flat I did all sorts of weird stuff that didn’t turn out well – painting stars on the kitchen ceiling, painting all the piping in the bathroom fluorescent pink…

What was I thinking?!
