This sterling sports drama is set against the backdrop of the 1995 Rugby World Cup and stars Matt Damon and Morgan Freeman.

South Africa is the host nation and new president Nelson Mandela (a superb Freeman) sees the event as an ideal opportunity to create harmony in his apartheid-torn nation. So he calls on Damon’s national rugby union captain Francois Pienaar to whip his nearly all-white team into winning shape.

An uplifting story, well-told by director Clint Eastwood, which, via a side trip to the tiny cell where Mandela was held for so many years, ends in the nail-biting clash between South Africa’s underdog Springboks and the mighty juggernaut of New Zealand’s All Blacks.

This film is showing at 11.20pm on UTV.
