In Killing Eve, Villanelle has arrived in Essex. What exactly is the cold-blooded killer up to?
The Only Way Is Essex, or so they say – and as spy thriller Killing Eve continues with ruthless assassin Villanelle (Jodie Comer) rocking up in Basildon, it certainly looks like she got the memo.
Still in pain from the stab wound to her stomach, the psychopath heads to a local supermarket to summon help and soon attracts the attention of mild-mannered shopper Julian (The Mighty Boosh’s Julian Barratt), who seems only too happy to look after our ‘damsel in distress’.
But is Julian really the good Samaritan he seems?
After the wild fashions of series one, it’s a different Villanelle we’re seeing this time around. “She’s been stripped of her luxury and she’s forced to wear other people’s clothes,” Jodie Comer told TV Times.
“Which she definitely would not choose in a million years – there’s even one moment where she’s wearing Crocs!
“When I first saw the fabric for the superhero pyjamas she has to wear I was like, ‘No way!’ But
this woman is in such a dangerous position, and somehow the pyjamas just become Villanelle and she ends up working them.”
And what of Villanelle’s nemesis, MI6 agent Eve Polastri (Sandra Oh)? Well, she remains hot on her tail and though the gap is narrowing, it’s not at all certain if she can she track her down.
