Idris Elba takes the title role in this epic biopic based on Nelson Mandela’s 1995 autobiography.

Telling the story of his remarkable journey from rebel leader fighting to overthrow South Africa’s apartheid system to globally revered statesman and president of his country, the film is far too earnest and shallow.

However, Elba does an excellent job and fellow Brit Naomie Harris is very good, too, as Mandela’s controversial second wife, Winnie.
