Elizabeth Olsen (younger sister of twins Mary-Kate and Ashley) gives a terrific performance as a troubled young woman who escapes from a sinister cult.
However, she is unable to handle the world outside. After living on a remote rural commune under the sway of its dangerously charismatic leader (John Hawkes), Olsen’s Martha flees and takes refuge with her wealthy elder sister (Sarah Paulson) and brother-in-law (Hugh Dancy) at their plush lakeside home.
Ill-at-ease in her new surroundings, she remains haunted by her chilling experiences within the cult and fears being tracked down by its members. As her past memories begin to blur with the present, it becomes unnervingly difficult to distinguish between what is real and what is imagined in this subtle, unsettling thriller.
